Senior User Technology Specialist

Walter Barbee is a highly experienced IT professional who has a proven track record in network administration, network security, technical support, and technical training. As the Senior User Technology Specialist for the City of Phoenix, he ensures the proper administration of numerous business critical systems, including CCTV, Lightning Detection, P25 Radio Communications, and maintains more than 600 network devices for the City’s Aviation Department. He has served in various IT managerial positions for more than 15 years and has contributed greatly to numerous technology and IT initiatives throughout his career. Walter has a master’s degree in Information Systems Management, an extensive background in physical security systems, and experience with incident response, all qualities that were integral in designing and maintaining critical incident response technologies for Phoenix’s Sky Harbor International Airport. Walter continues to demonstrate his expertise in designing, installing, and managing different network and security systems for the City of Phoenix, while keeping in mind the importance of providing comprehensive training for the end-users.
Walter has a certification in Airport Management from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and is a Certified Member (C.M.) of the American Association of Airport Executives. Prior to his current position at Phoenix’s Aviation department, he worked as a systems manager for Royal Caribbean Cruises; lived in England, where he was responsible for all technical services for EMEA; and spent more than 17 years in the US Army, where he achieved the rank of Captain.
